Sonita Dass studied financial economics at university and then began her career with Harrods as a buyer specialising in homeware, attaining the position of Senior Buyer.
After a number of years Sonita left to set up her own label, designing decorative homewares, as a diffusion of her father’s fashion business.
Sonita travelled extensively sourcing new fabrics and decorative embellishments for her designs; it was while on one of her travels that Sonita noticed the need for good quality skin care and cosmetic products in India and the Middle East and so with research and the combined business acumen of her father Paul Dass and Bharat Jashanmal, Sonita created Maya Colour Limited.
Together they will create an eclectic retail chain across the Middle East and India, dedicated to treating mind, body and soul with an array of world renowned skin care products based on the use of botanical extracts to soothe, calm and restore.
Marketing Director
Bharat Jashanmal is the Senior Partner of Jashanmal Consulting Services, a company specialising in marketing, brand building, IT and technology. Bharat’s marketing and retail experience has evolved over 30 years as head of Jashanmal & Sons, the Gulf-wide retail group.
Joining the Bahrain division of the family business in 1969,he moved on to Dubai in the late 1970’s and was instrumental in developing the groups retail strategy, culminating in it being recognised as one of the regions leading retail operations. Jashanmal and Sons now own the stand alone stores for Burberry and Clarkes shoes throughout the Middle East.
Head of Product Development
Carol Irving started her career in the City but switched from the rather sombre environment of “figures and suits” to restart her career in the more glamorous world of the beauty industry. Initially with Roger & Gallet in a marketing capacity and eventually joining Crabtree & Evelyn in its infancy as Product Development Manager; here she was instrumental in building a portfolio of unique products, many of which are still in use today. Carols expertise and “nose” for quality products, together with her knowledge of the industry will help establish the Maya Colour concept for the future.
Head of Retail Design
Candy Stanton with her expertise in retail store design is responsible for interpreting Paul’s conceptual vision by creating an urban chic retail environment that will proudly reflect Maya Colour’s philosophy. Candy‘s testament to her creative retailing visions can be seen in Harvey Nichols and Mulberry in London and Harvey Nichols Istanbul.
Head of Graphic Design
Robert Young will be helping develop the Urban Shore brand by helping create the visual identity and the working on the graphic design used throughout the store. Robert has experience in collaborating with and creating leading brands and has worked with clients such as Nokia, BBC and Pfyzer.
Creative Make Up Consultant
Karen Alder has been one of the key people involved in the transformation of Kylie Minogue, Minnie Driver, Colin Firth along with a whole host of A-List celebrities from Hollywood. Karen has been instrumental in creating classic to avant-garde looks for American Vogue, British Vogue, Glamour, GQ, Rolling Stones, Vanity Fair to name but a few of the international magazines she has worked with. She is highly acclaimed for creating effortless glamour with a twist capturing youth and natural beauty.
Nail Bar Consultant
Nonie Créme nail technician to the stars, Nonie’s artistry can be seen on the hands of many celebrities and gracing the pages of international fashion magazines from London to Moscow. Her work is also seen on the “toes “of Jimmy Choo advertisements and the “fingers” of H Samuel - adding to the sparkle of the gemstones.
